Mamanee's 10 tips to Stay young at 30 with a plus

Women and Aging, it's just a number or is it?

We had a new hire class and part of the first day requires that you introduce yourself. The statement projected just after "You can call me (nickname)" was " I am ___ years old". Most of them laughed nervously or cringed at that statement.

We had 16 new hires and only 2 actually shared their age. The rest came up with "never mind", "let's not", "Can we keep it a secret?" Or would say something like "*cough* 19", which of course we know was a lie.

I was the only one that said "I am proudly 37 years old" with a big smile on my face.

This is how you should feel at 30, like a Goddess!!

I have to admit when I turned 25, I stopped counting for a few years and always would have them guess my age instead, the flattery made it easier for me to accept that I was aging. We fear the growing old process, and I can't blame us especially in a society where they make you feel that young is better, you have these teen stars on TV that portray older roles (the other woman role, the successful business woman who was once poor role) and commercial models that start at 14.

I appreciate products like Dove who show Models past the teenie bopper stage and Hollywood that have older actors portray high school students because they believe that outstanding performances are better than just good looks.

I also remember during a job interview at a BPO, a male was interviewing me then after a scan through my resume he most probably saw my birthday which implied I was 31 back then, he then asked me a question that definitely deserved a kick in the mouth: "So you're single, is that by choice?"... Wow!! I was thinking, is he seriously asking me that, of course I didn't punch him or resort to violence still confused on how that question would be relevant to the position I was applying for, however I just smiled and said yes without a bat of the eye.

Age and it's process, whatever you do it's there, how much you try to avoid it, it's coming. Question is how do you make it easier especially for us women?

Let me share some obvious tips to slow down the aging process, which "most" has worked for me so far:

1. Avoid or quit smoking. It is known to be harmful to your health and to your skin. Yellow teeth, acne, dark lips, smelling like an ashtray. Need I say more?

2. Exercise. Get off your butt and move, even household chores is a form of excercise. The whole point is that your body should move.

3. Breastfeed after giving birth. It will help you get back into your natural shape and also provides a different glow as a mother. I get a lot of hate from single girls because of my figure, swear to God, they always tell me they hate me. Even though I have given birth via c-section twice. It's been breastfeeding that has helped me get my body back.

4. Go light on the make-up. No one wants to date Elvira at daytime. You can always visit a department store ask those cosmetics sales ladies to help you get the right look for you. Too lazy to go out? Watch youtube for tutorials on daytime make up, you can also visit Monika's blog @ Mom Gone Vain, she has such a pretty face and great suggestions for make-up too.

5. Eat right. I am such a douche at not being able to take in fruits, but I do love veggies. Lower your carb intake, that means white bread especially rice. I have half a cup of rice in a day, then the rest is wheat bread sometimes with a banana. Eat more when you wake up and less before you go to bed. The metabolism diet has always worked for me, that's 5 SMALL meals in a day.

5. Skin care. Create your beauty regime. I have just created my own by washing my face daily before going to bed and facial scrub every two days. Keep a separate face ritual, meaning facial wash or scrub than what you use on your body. Moisturize if you have dry skin, use the right soap for you and possibly not the soap your whole family uses. Yours should be a beauty soap.

6. Dress to make you feel good. My mom sometimes thinks she's 19. Too skimpy for her age. Too much skin isn't always young looking. Be free to have your own fashion sense, you don't always have to look like you stepped out of vogue. Accessorizing also helps. Always dress in a way that will help accentuate your best assets. Note, accentuate not expose

7. Laugh. Ok not on your own, I don't want you looking like a mad Hyena. Play catch me if you can with kids and have a giggle with them or maybe a tickle fight with the hubby *ayiiieeee*. Laughing does wonders for endorphins and your facial muscles.

8. Invest in "Me" time. Regardless if you are staying at home or working. Everyone one needs a break, once in a while. If your at home, put up a little corner in the house for your time out place, while the kids nap, indulge yourself with a chapter of a book or write in a journal. If you're out most of the time, grab that trip to the spa for 60minute massage or a salon hair treatment. Pampering will make you feel younger.

9. Positive thoughts. Yes, I rant, a lot, I may say.  It's good to rant, let it out and when you are done, close your eyes, breathe and remind yourself of all the wonderful  things you have, be grateful of the good things and let go of all the hate in your heart. Inner peace equals a healthy heart which will exude through how you look towards others Stress is the biggest factor to speed up your age. I always ask my trainees, what is your happy thought? Ask yourself too and use that whenever you feel down.

10. Sex. (Censored) Lots of it, if possible. Your all-in-one anti-aging everything, exercise, glow and happiness. Is it necessary for me to go into detail. You're single you say? well... I could say more but then this would be quite not the place to discuss this. *Wink wink*

    1. Don't worry Levy, you have no need to eliminate carbs altogether since I think I would die if I did. Haha. Minimizing is the key word and eating in less at a meal but frequently. :)

  5. I agree with everything you have on the list. Right now, I'm working on "eating right", "exercise" and I think I need to work on "me time" as right now, I barely have that. :) You are young-looking and pretty so I trust what you say on it. :)

  7. Ok- I should stop using my two c-sections as a reason for not exercising! Haha. But really, do you also feel pain too when you exercise? Because I do at some point (when the exercise gets intense). Then I have to stop. My OB said it could be because I haven't fully healed. That's why she recommended that I only do light exercises for the meantime.

    1. I have two c-sections too! Sometimes I do experience pain pero malakas din kase pain tolerance ko kaya parang dedma lang haha. Avoid crunches. Swimming is also a good way to workout, full body tapos no pressure. 😊 Ever tried dancing? Hehe

    2. Ah yes! My OB recommended swimming instead of the usual gym-based routines kasi nga I feel pain when the exercise gets too intense or when I start to lift weights. I have yet to find a lap pool I can use that won't cost me too much. :)

I'm an awful dancer, but I do dance at home (when no one else will see, except for the kids). Haha!

    3. Well dancing is also good whether good or not and I'm sure that your kids love you for it!

Have you tried the pool in Marikina Sports Center? It's 40pesos for the entrance and it's a lap pool na. :) Hubby and I used to swim there when I was preggy. Hehe

    1. Good job Marie, I applaud you for working out. Working out doesn't necessarily call for slimming but just to get healthy. 😊 I love eating! i just always do it in moderation dahil bumabagal na metabolism ko.
