So just to satisfy my cravings, I opt for the easier recipes and one that I have usually made is Apple Cumble which is also known in the US as Apple Crisp. Apple Crumble in the UK originated in World War II as food rationing.

This just literally melts in your mouth...imagine the taste of the combination of the sourness of green apples with the sweetness and crunchiness of it's streusel crust.

Aren't those specks of cinnamon just calling you over to dig that fork in?
With this recipe I'm using Granny Smith apples or the green apples. You can use other kinds or even a combination but of course this alters the taste. Green apples tend to be a little sour, Red Washington Apples, I find pretty bland and Fuji Apples are sweet and juicy.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can substitute apples with peaches, blueberries and my favorite rhubarb.
So without further adieu allow me to walk you through this wonderful dessert which is great with a hot cup of tea and custard, but can also go with coffee with a side of vanilla ice cream or topped with a dollop of whipped cream. You can find the full recipe with ingredients at the bottom of the page.
